Duels Warstorm Origins & Omens: Kronnax


My name is Dust… or at least… my last one, as my real one I’d him forgotten a long time ago… and time stands still here in Phyrra… I do not know how long I’m stuck in this place, it seems ages, I’ve seen it all, wars… famines… violence… hate… love… invasions… well… you may just call me Dust… as that is what I am… And today I’m going to tell you a sad story… One that begun some years ago in the eastern Mera Sea… Today I’m going to introduce you to the origins of a young Khronish Pirate that goes by the name of Kronnax…

Three years ago, that pour lost soul was serving as a crewman, on the Vermington Pirate Ship, and he was on the verge of being promoted from Crewman to Commander but two days before that happening his Captain commandeered to board a passing by Elf vessel. That vessel was commandeered by Spectree, one fearless Elf Commander and his mission was to transport a shipment of Gold to Nir Machas, under the supervision of the High Princess Isilme, daughter of the High King Umaia.

Kronnax and his crew boarded the ship pilling and destroying everything around, the Elfs didn’t have any change of counter attack that surprise attack… but then… he saw her… in one second as their eyes crossed by, something happened… he felt in love… And when his captain ordered some crewmember to kill Isilme, he charged back to his Captain in order to save her… his actions wasn’t very well received by his pears but… in the end she was able to flee her vessel with the help of Spectree… and the Pirates got their gold.

Due to his action he was beaten and left to die in Parathia… but he was a strong young man, and in that day he had a reason to survive… the better reason… more so…. And surviving was what he did… After that he traveled half the Machan Empire searching for Isilme, and in that voyagers he made friends and rivals, and each new quest or challenge bought him a little more close to her…

Then one day… he found her… she was on the verge of marring Spectree… that almost killed him inside… and in a fitting rage he manage to abducted her from her camp, and they happily live for the next two years with one another… then one day… one disgraceful day… they were discovered by High King Umaia army, leaded by Commander Spectree, who grabs her to return her to his people… In the mist of the beating Kronnax still tries to overpower the more than 20 Elfs that were around him… but in vain… Moments later they left him in the floor to by, and return to their Camp…

There was nothing he could do… just survive…

And three months ago that survival bought him here… into the City of Duels… his quest to gain gold to form an Army to set Isilme free … Of course, that here In Phyrra not everything is what it seems… and his future might not be so bright as he wishes… as there’s much for him to discover… there’s many faces of evil waiting for his mistakes… and he’s not perfect… His path will still cross many times with Spectree… but that’s not all… as in the shadows lies Al Zuijard… Scar Voc… and even… a treat from the future in the name of his best friend Americo Silva…

But in his dark times he will not be alone, as he’s got some friends and allies to help him in his quests, from Isilme the love of his live, Commander Silva, his best friend… Milosh Black and Tittas… two cat people that will help him see the world with different eyes… and even a surprise from his future… in the name of Lady Leonor…

As that it all be in his hand… if he choose right he might get what he whishes… but those how know him… know better… sometimes the best isn’t what he wishes… but what he needs… and today with his joining into the Army of Shadows he discovered that wasn’t the best choice, but he will learn… and we’ll be here waiting to see what will happen next…

And then we had the matches of Kronnax, and yes, I’m writing well… I said matches, as there was a little problem with the CGT pairings and Kronnax was booked in two places…

This was really a mess due mostly the fact of Rat Pegaduro didn’t have the correct cards for the tourney, and for the previous complications from the “little” mess… But hey, it’s the first time that CGT is organizing a thing like this, so it’s more than natural this kind of things.

Duels Defense

Kadasak or "Duels Defense" is a modern variant of an ancient West Benecian military training exercise. Originally called Girutet ("Running the Fire") by the Benecians, it was "played" on various terrain types (rocky, forested, flat, trenched, etc) that approximated battlefield conditions. The aim of the exercise was to train tactical commanders and their troops the art and science of defensive warfare. The commander was given a limited number of mobile defensive platforms and weapons to place upon the field as he saw fit. These platforms and weapons consisted of towers and seize engines (catapults, trebuchets, etc) and were manned by his army.

Once the towers and engines were placed, ever increasing hordes of deadly runners were unleashed from one end of the field (known as the Fire Gate). These runners were traditionally captured orcs, wild animals, and other prisoners of war. Their desperate goal was to run the field and avoid getting killed, all the while staying on the path in hope of making it to the far end (known as the Liberty Gate), where the few that survived were granted their freedom.

The Girutet commander was granted the opportunity to acquire better defensive weapons and structures through a point system-for every runner killed. Upgrades and replacements, used carefully with tactical finesse, lay at the heart of Girutet. A commander who stayed cool under pressure, who understood the uses of terrain and placement, who utilized his men and equipment to their fullest, was rarely disgraced by failure. And failure, in the Benecian military-or for that matter, any military organization in Makanis-meant certain banishment if not death.

During the Benecian invasion of the Second Kingdom under King Harkaan I (1 - 51 MKII), the eastern Machan armies of Lord General Pozak came into contact with the concept of Girutet and was much taken by its potential, particularly by those in the military clans that made up the army's officer corps. The Machans called their variant Yura Kadasak or "Defense Against the Tide." Generally the rules were the same as Girutet but the Machans added magical defenses and the use of battle mages and druids. This variant also brought with it the addition of wyrms and dragons that brought a new twist in strategy since they no longer had to follow ordained paths since they could fly.

Over time, the large-scale battlefield nature of Yura Kadasak proved to be too cumbersome and expensive. Lord Priconas of the Clan Kirdonas, a superb Tanchass (much like chess) game player, designed a version of Yura Kadasak that could be played on a large board with various wooden and stone figures. This version evolved into one of the classic strategy games played by the military-one that makes its debut in a new form for the masses to enjoy. Welcome to the new Kadasak: Duels Defense!
